DeKalb County police officer accused of molesting girl

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. -

A DeKalb County police officer has been charged with child molestation.

Officer Manuel Williams is accused of inappropriately touching a 13-year-old girl, DeKalb County Police Chief Cedric Alexander said at a press briefing on Wednesday.

Williams, a veteran on the force for 18 years, was arrested at his home on Wednesday morning.

The alleged victim is a friend of Williams' daughter, according to Alexander.  The friend was visiting the 49-year-old officer back in September of 2012 when the alleged inappropriate behavior took place. The girl's father reported the crime to police earlier this month.

Alexander said that Williams admitted to the charges and has submitted his resignation.

Williams is being held at the DeKalb County Jail and is awaiting his first court appearance.
