Lincoln Park fitness class Stroller Strides is a cool new option for mothers who are looking to exercise and get back in shape after baby, without sacrificing precious time with their children.
"You want a little bit of time for yourself, but as an early mom you want to make sure you're not taking away from one of the best passions of your life, being a mother," Equinox fitness instructor Tonya Dugger said.
"Something like Stroller Strides is fantastic," Dugger continued. "You get a chance to be with the baby, you meet other moms, you're in a community and being outside, being active. It reminds you about being families are important - and you're important too."
The class works areas that mothers really want to re-shape: The core area that is usually a trouble spot after pregnancy.
"Reestablishing your center after carrying a wonderful child for nine months and doing it in small doses is the best thing to do," Dugger said.
"A little bit of cardio, a little bit of core work, a little bit of weight training and a lot of time with the baby," Dugger said, when asked what exercises are executed in the class.
Stroller Strides is perfect for moms who can't seem to find time to work out. Walking the baby in a stroller is something nearly every mother does before their children learn to walk.
Participants told FOX 32 News that they signed up for the class to try and get back into shape, to work out with friends and spend time with their kids – all at once.
"It's great to hear what other moms are going through, the different stages, different ages of the babies," one mother said.
"It forces you to get out of the house so you can do something and be active and have camaraderie with other moms," another told FOX 32.
So get outside and enjoy being with your baby with Stroller Strides!
Tonya Dugger also joined Good Day Chicago Wednesday morning to show exercises moms can do at home as well.
