Cory Causing Controversy?

Posted: Updated:
Newark, New Jersey (My9NJ) -

Senator Elect Cory Booker has begun to start shaping up his team in Washington D.C. and he’s already receiving some backlash from critics. Lonegan’s camp feels he is following a sort of “Obama-mode” at a time when people aren’t terribly supportive of the President. He appointed former Legislative Assistant to President Obama and former Facebook Executive, Louisa Terrell as his Chief of Staff.

Patrick Murray the Director of Monmouth University Polling chimed in on whether or not this is a real controversy or just some of Booker’s political opponents speaking out.

“I’m not sure it’s controversial, but they’re certainly sending a message about who Booker is and what he wants to do as a U.S. Senator. I mean Louisa Terrell does have some real credibility here. She was on the judiciary committee, she worked with Vice President Biden when he was chair over that committee, then she went to Yahoo!, then she went to the White House, then she went to Facebook, so what we’ve got is senate experience and social media, who better to work for Booker than somebody who has both of those on their resume?” He said.

Keep in mind during Booker’s time as Mayor of Newark, Facebook donated $100M to the city which some say is the biggest political contribution of all time. Lonegan discussed this money a lot during the campaign and whether or not Booker was too influenced by Silicon Valley heavyweights.

“That’s a good question because you look at everything that has happened whether it was for Cory Booker or the city of Newark. This $100M was supposed to be for the city of Newark and the question is, the things that Cory Booker has brought into Newark will they still be there when he’s gone?” Murray said.

The real question however is whether or not Booker is using his new role as Senator simply as a stepping stone for a higher office?
