Posted: Updated:

Dr. Harold Lancer joined us today to talk about the best ways to keep your skin young and smooth. Did you know that eating sushi may be bad for your skin.. Check out the other hidden food dangers for your skin, as well as easy at home remedies, and treatments you can do in office to keep a healthy glow...

FACTS:

It is important to transition the skin to fall to ensure skin is smooth, even, moisturized and protected for the coming season. The dermis is the body's largest organ and often its most neglected.

How do you get ready?

  • Increase  moisture protection and change approach as weather the gets colder and the temperatures on heaters are turned up for winter nights.
  • Incorporate a regiment at home (Think about Face Neck and décolleté as one area - Body is another)
  • Be mindful of making changes in how you eat
  • Visit the Doctor's office for proper care

Know that Consistency is key and each will work together from home care to diet to dermatology visits. GOAL is to continue to process to exfoliate, hydrate and oxygenate the skin from the inside out and outside in to rejuvenate the cells throughout the season.

  • Dry, cold winter weather outside and heating systems inside can be the skin's enemy
  • As soon as the weather gets cool and dry -  dehydration, redness and cracking, dull skin becomes a problem
  • They key is to maintain the body's moisture balance, keep the moisture barrier intact, improve cellular turnover function and keep the cells hydrated throughout the transition and the winter season.
  • Train the cells and the skin to speed up the natural processes that are slowing down in winter - and as we age - we are training our skin to act younger and look better.1 -

HOME CARE:

  • DO: EXFOLIATE - CLEANSE AND POLISH -  Key importance of a regiment that beings with a manual exfoliator - a "polish" - like the Lancer Method
  • DO Slough off the dead skin cells  - including neck and décolleté
  • DO Increase cellular turnover stop hibernation
  • DO prepare the skin to receive hydration and produce healthy new skin cells.
  • Do use a gently non soap cleanser to clean the new skin cells
  • Do use a moisturizer when body is still wet/moist after bathing or showering

Lancer Method Polish ( which has an Anti-Aging Polish, a Sensitive Skin Polish and a Blemish Control Polish is made from smooth very gentle sea mineral magnesium oxide sodium bicarbonate - and has key ingredients to sooth skin or deal with skin concerns)

Someone could make a scrub from a very fine sea salt or coffee grind in a honey or oatmeal or brown sugar in honey.

  • Do look to add in protein based serums - like stem cell into your regiment to keep skin ultra-hydrated
  • Do look to add Vitamin C products and Hyaluronic Acid in your products to help with cellular turnover and to seal in moisturizer

DON'T TAKE LONG HOT SHOWERS - Less is more for winter time

DO:

  • Take a shorter shower
  • Change a shower for bath
  • Add oil to bathwater to help seal in moisture (Olive is great and similar to human body lipids)

DON'T USE DRYING AGENTS
Toss out Alcohol
Toss out toners
Do not use additional benzoyl peroxide products

DON'T FORGET SUNSCREEN- damage to the cells and additional dehydration is prevalent in winter when we are least likely to be protected

FOOD INTAKE:

DO FEED THE FACE INSIDE AND OUT

DONT Eat hidden sodium "skin Sallower"  - foods like:

  • Balsamic vinegar (and all salad dressings)
  • Sushi
  • Cheese

DO Eat foods high in Omega 3 fatty acids
Pick white fish over salmon
Add good fats like Olives and Avocado
DO Introduce more vitamin C -
DO eat more green leafy vegetables
DO Add Chlorophyll to your diet - and into your water to help oxygenate the skin which is important from the inside out and outside in-
DO - Drink 10 cups of water- Alkaline is best - all throughout the day (not going to the bathroom nearly every hour you are awake = you are not drinking enough)
Do add some outdoor exercise or yoga to add to oxygenation and blood flow -when combined with the water above and oxygen treatments in office keeps oxygenation of skin fluid from the inside out and outside in - which is key in winter.

DO VISIT YOUR DERMATOLOGIST TO GET WINTERIZED

In office Dr. LANCER recommends your DO kick off the season with a Micro Dermabrasion/ AKA "Power Peel" that is a great manual exfoliating treatment that uses a machine to function like the home polish to really get the surface dirt debris and dead cells off the skin - to release new skin cells.

DO get an Oxygen Facials  - Oxygen treatment will be performed on model (Sarah Miller) by Ruth de la Cruz.

DO get a ultra hydrating Stem Cell treatment or mask in office.

DO get a microcurrent treatment in office - machine not there but same results as the home device - to ensure the absorption of the proteins in the serum into the aquaporin protein membranes that take the product into cells.
