DETROIT (WJBK) -

Detroit Police tell us a gunman is in custody after a deadly shooting at the Pablo Davis Elder Living Center on West Vernor Highway in Detroit. Two women were shot and killed. The shooter is apparently a resident at the center.

Sources are telling Fox 2 the suspect is Mike Reda, 65, a Lebanese man who lived at the center. Police went inside the facility to find him. Reda slipped out a side door but officers found him a short time later. Neighbors say he was a ticking time bomb.

Paul Frantangelo says he came face to face with a killer. He was sitting outside the apartment complex when he saw the suspect armed with an AK-47.

"He told me to get on the ground and start praying," Frantangelo tells Fox 2. "He let off a round and he shot my friend in the head. My ears were starting to ring."

Frantangelo, a veteran, was spared but his neighbor was not. Two women were shot and killed. We're told both knew the suspect and lived at the senior center.

Detroit Police Chief James Craig says officers detained the suspect a short time after arriving on the scene. But that did little to comfort residents who were evacuated and relatives of those who were trapped in their apartments during the tense situation. Fox 2 has learned the deadly shooting likely stemmed from the suspect's recent breakup. Neighbors say there were warning signs.

"The girl he broke up with said some trouble was going to happen," one neighbor told Fox 2. "We all took it as sure we'll be careful. She said he's going to shoot somebody and we didn't take it for what it was said and it happened."

Late Sunday police were searching the apartments for weapons. Mike Reda is in custody, two women are dead and he'll likely be charged with their murders.
