Five teen roommates charged with stealing musical equipment from UIC

CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

Five teenage roommates broke into a University of Illinois at Chicago building and stole $35,000 worth of musical equipment, Cook County prosecutors said Saturday.

Rodney Moore, 19; Emilio Miguel Guzman,16; Noah Benjamin Ferris, 17; Rasheed Williamson, 17; and Kenneth Stanek, 18; are charged with the alleged burglaries between Sept. 25 and Oct. 14 in the 1000 block of West Harrison, the Chicago Sun-Times is reporting.

Three of the five are also charged with criminal trespass for breaking into another UIC building, causing more than $50,000 in damages, which the school received in state funding.

The musical equipment the five are accused of stealing was recovered after Stanek tried to sell the equipment at a pawn shop at 428 S. Clark, court records show.

The group allegedly broke into the building and broke into wooden lockers which held the equipment.

All five confessed, prosecutors said.

The burglary was caught on surveillance cameras.

The teenagers are banned from the UIC campus. Their police reports indicate they are students but it's unclear what school they attend.

All five live in the 400 block of South Morgan Street.

Cook County judge Israel Desierto gave the five a 10,000 I-bond with electronic monitoring.

None have criminal records.

There are several shows weekly at 14 different parks throughout the five boroughs. A recent show at Rumsey Playfield in Central Park paid tribute to Pete Seeger. Most of the shows are free and are funded by tickets purchased for the some of the bigger acts.
