HARPER WOODS, Mich. (WJBK) -

A neighborhood in Harper Woods is thanking Harper Woods police Friday night, after traps were finally set for the growing number of feral cats. They say one particular neighbor kept feeding the cats, causing them to keep living at the abandoned home next door.

"I've seen up to 14 at a time," Kevin Mitchell, a neighbor, tells Fox 2's Erika Erickson. "I stood there and counted them one day."

"I don't want to see anything die. I don't want to see anything go hungry. I just feel sorry for them," Karen says.

After months of living around the abandoned house the cats began to breed, and Karen and her boyfriend found a litter of 3-week-old kittens in their attic.

"We just can't find anybody to help us with them," Karen says.

No help came from animal control or humane societies and, finally, Friday, Harper Woods police sent assistance and set up traps. Karen's boyfriend, Steve Lacey, says two cats were caught in one hour.

Harper Woods will take the cats in and determine if they are tame enough to be adopted, or if they are too wild and unsafe.

"I'm going to kind of miss them but yet it's the best thing for the neighborhood, and for us," Karen says.

Things are looking up for cute little Cami King. Not only is her cancer in remission, she also just got to meet Mickey, Minnie and Elmo in Times Square. But, if you can believe it, there's something else this 4-year-old is even more excited about: Times Square is going gold. The chairman of the Times Square Advertising Coalition announced the crossroads of the world is going to light up in gold to raise awareness for pediatric cancer research.
