SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -

A bank robber at a Scottsdale bank was stopped in his tracks on Thursday.

The suspect entered the Compass Bank at Scottsdale Road and Osborn about 2 p.m. Thursday and demanded money. He was given money which contained a dye pack.

As he was fleeing southbound on foot, the dye pack exploded, and Scottsdale Police were able to locate him a short distance later. But he did not want to give up so easily.

"The suspect would not comply with those commands. One officer had a handgun drawn, the other officer had a taser drawn. The suspect reached behind his back when the commands were being given, failed to comply, and the officers both fired the weapons," said Scottsdale Police Officer David Pubins. "At that point he was taken into custody."

He wasn't struck by the gun shot, but the taser made contact. No officers were injured.

The suspect, identified as 53-year-old Michael James Verbsky, was treated at the hospital for a minor injury and booked into jail.
