The 'sparrow face' selfie

Posted: Updated:
NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

In the age of selfies, it seems the sparrow face is the successor to the duck face, at least according to celebrities and the magazines that cover them, such as Us Weekly.

Gwen Flamberg, beauty director at Us Weekly, says the trend originated in Japan. She says the sparrow face is like a young bird, waiting to be fed by its mother.

Miley Cyrus is doing it. So are Kylie and Kendall Jenner. And Ariel Winter from "Modern Family." But not everyone is sold. It seems the sparrow face has already taken flight. Thousands have uploaded their sparrow selfies to Instagram.

We asked Flamberg for tips on how to do it just right: "Open the lips a little bit, open the eyes super wide, look young, innocent like a young bird waiting to be fed."

Then we went to Times Square -- the crossroads of the world and the capital of cheesy picture taking -- and tried it out with some friends. And pretty soon everyone was doing it.
