Dem. Joe D Backs Christie

Posted: Updated:
Trenton, New Jersey (My9NJ) -

The gubernatorial election is coming up this November and interestingly one New Jersey Democratic heavyweight is backing Republican Chris Christie rather than his party-mate Barbara Buono.

Essex County Executive Joseph DiVincenzo is one of the most powerful Democrats in New Jersey who has a great working relationship with the current governor and he hopes to continue that relationship after this year’s election.

Divincenzo’s Chief of Staff, Philip Alagia discussed their relationship. “They’ve known each other when Chris Christie was a U.S. Attorney, Joe was the County Executive and they had an unbelievable working relationship. Four years ago I was the Political Director for John Corzine against Chris Christie and Joe D was one of John Corzine’s biggest supporters. The day after the election Joe met with Christie who was just the Governor Elect. Joe thought that Governor Christie was going to say you supported the other guy, forget about it. What the governor said to Joe was listen, the election is over Newark, Essex County is very important for the state of New Jersey, let’s work together and since day-one they’ve worked together to make Essex County a better place.” Alagia said.

At this time there are about 52, 000 Democrats across the state of New Jersey who are supporting Governor Christie, and recent polls show that Christie may be running away with this race. But why aren’t Democrats sticking with their own party candidate?

Alagia backs up their decision. “One thing I don’t think people are getting is that I think this supporting Christie hurt Joe politically …but it’s the right thing to do for the citizens of Essex County.” He said.

DiVincenzo is currently facing allegations from ELEC for not disclosing how about $72,000 of campaign funding was spent, and for possibly using that money for personal use.

“I’m clear; everything that was done was done for either government or the normal operation of your office. Anything questionable in terms of if it was government expense; Joe has never charged a penny to the County of Essex for meals or travel.” Alagia said.

In the end, in such an overwhelming blue state, it’s surprising that a Republican candidate can possibly win this election by 20 or 30 points.

StubHub, which is a website that provides services for buyers and sellers for tickets to sporting events, concerts, and other live entertainment events, has been hacked. StubHub is getting a lot of bad press, but the site is really the victim here. The hackers have hacked accounts from other sites, and then used that information to get into the StubHub accounts.

Making New York City more energy efficient

More than half the population of New York City rides public transportation to work. No other metropolis in this country even approaches that percentage or the MTA's total number of riders. For that reason, New York likely ranks as the most energy-efficient city in the nation. But what would it take to make the city even more energy-efficient or even self-sufficient?
