Study Examines Who Mom Favors

Posted: Updated:
PHILADELPHIA -

A new study from Purdue University finds that mothers tend to favor children who remind them of themselves.

Researchers say that mothers are more likely to pick the child who has the same beliefs as they do as their favorite kid. That's even if the mother had other children who are more successful or well-behaved.

The study also found that gender similarity was a factor in long-term favoritism. For example, the mother-daughter bond is usually more strong than the mother-son bond.

An interesting finding is that if a child was engaging in deviant behavior and suddenly stopped after many years, then the parent would be more likely to pick them as the favorite.
