PHOENIX -

A employee for CenturyLink was shot Tuesday afternoon while on the job in the area of 22nd Street and Southern.

The worker was in his vehicle in the alley when he was shot. He was looking down at some maps while seated in the car, preparing to do some sort of engineering work, when he was approached by a man on a bicycle.

That man, who was wearing a hoodie, demanded his money and his wallet and shot him in the shoulder.

"As he is trying to retrieve the items from his person, he is shot in the course of what he described as a robbery to us," said Phoenix Police Sgt. Trent Crump.

The worker was able to drive himself away from the scene. Phoenix Fire paramedics picked him up and took him to Maricopa Medical Center.

He suffered non life-threatening injuries and is expected to survive.

One person has been taken into custody in connection to the shooting. Police were able to catch him fairly quickly.
