Jilted Bride Makes Most Out Of Situation

Posted: Updated:
FARGO, ND -

It's a bride-to-be's worst nightmare: imagine having everything set for your big day, only to get a phone call from your fiancé saying the wedding is off. That's exactly what happened to a woman in North Dakota and she's turning the horrible situation into a positive one.

Michelle Marxen was set to tie the knot on October 19th, but everything changed after she received a phone call from her fiancé.

"He didn't wanna marry me. He said he didn't love me anymore," she recalled.

Michelle had everything ready, from the wedding venue to the flowers.

"This would have been the venue at the Ramada," she said. "It was my fairytale wedding... when I was younger... you just dream of your wedding day."

Her fiancé's last minute flake disrupted meticulous planning.

"We spent a whole year planning this wedding and it just all ended in a phone call," Marxen remarked.

Michelle spent thousands of dollars for the wedding and had already signed contracts for a ballroom and other wedding services. Instead of crying and getting angry, she decided to help herself heal by helping others, so she donated her wedding plans to Creative Care for Reaching Independence (CCRI), a non-profit organization that helps people with disabilities.

"I was speechless... Actually the next day I called her to make sure it was for real," said CCRI's Judy Hudson.

The organization says that it's throwing a Halloween party for their clients thanks to Michelle's donation.

"It kind of changes you. I feel like I'm trying. This is helping me heal. Giving to some people that you know what is supposed to be my special day, now can turn into their special day," said Michelle.

Michelle says she plans to be in Las Vegas on what would have been her wedding day.

    NICE EASTER WEEKEND

The first half of the holiday weekend has been great and Easter Sunday looks just as nice. Clouds thin out late tonight with temperatures falling back to the 40s.

Initially it'll be jacket weather early Sunday morning but plenty of sunshine will warm us into the 60s by afternoon.  High temperatures will be a few degrees cooler than Saturday.

It will be noticeably cooler and breezy at the shore with highs in the low 50s.  Quiet conditions continue into Monday.
