CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

Two people were shot -- one fatally -- while driving in the South Side Chatham neighborhood Monday morning.

Two men -- a driver and a passenger -- were in a black Chevrolet Impala in the 800 block of East 82nd Street at 8:56 a.m. when they were shot, police said.

The passenger was shot in the upper back and died at the scene, police News Affairs Officer Daniel O'Brien said.

He was identified as 49-year-old Anthony Williamson, of the 8700 block of South Ashland Avenue, the Cook County Medical Examiner's office said.

The driver, a man in his 30s, was shot in the head, O'Brien said. The car kept moving down 82nd Street, where it hit three parked cars near the intersection of 82nd Street and Drexel Avenue before stopping.

Paramedics took the driver to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital, where he remains in critical condition, O'Brien said. His age was not yet known.

The Cook County Medical Examiner's office confirmed the death but would not release identification pending family notification.

No one is in custody as Area South detectives investigate.
