New Terminal Planned for Bob Hope Airport

Posted: Updated:

(FOX/ CNS) - A new terminal that could be 68 percent larger than the one that now exists is being planned for Bob Hope Airport, according to officials.

The replacement terminal would be 355,102 square feet, compared with 210,599 square feet in the existing terminal, according to information presented to the Burbank-Glendale-Pasadena Airport Authority last week, the Los Angeles Times reported. The new terminal would have 14 gates -- same as now.

Dan Feger, the airport's executive director, said in remarks reported by
The Times that the size of the new terminal might eventually be reduced, but
the current square footage will be used in the project's environmental impact
study, which is slated to begin before the end of the year.

The existing terminal is 80 years old and would be demolished after the
completion of a new terminal to create more space between it and the taxiways,
according to The Times. Airport officials say a new terminal is needed because
the existing building is too close to the runways -- 250 feet instead of the
750 feet required by Federal Aviation Administration safety standards.

The proposed terminal would include more publicly usable space because
some of the airport authority's functions, which take up 13,000 square feet,
would be moved to another building on the airport property, The Times reported.

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey is holding its monthly board meeting, two days after it heard from a panel on what it needs to do to improve its accountability and efficiency and restore public trust.
The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey could rescind a $1-a-year lease for a park-and-ride lot near the Lincoln Tunnel. The agency's chief of real estate and development told a committee Wednesday that it should change a deal made in 2012. Published reports have alleged that former Port Authority chairman David Samson voted to approve the lease even though his law firm did business with New Jersey Transit, which operates the park-and-ride lot.
