Evictions from trailer park may loom in Flagstaff

Updated:

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (AP) - A Georgia company's plan to build multifamily housing for Northern Arizona University students spells trouble for the residents of a trailer park that now occupies part of the site.

The Arizona Daily Sun reports that residents of Arrowhead Village residents have been told the project now awaiting rezoning approval by the city would force them out.

Andrew Young of Athens-based Landmark Properties says the rest estate company is excited about the Flagstaff market and wants to build two multistory buildings.

Residents say their trailers are too old to move and that the relocation money mentioned so far wouldn't stretch far enough.

Flagstaff Vice Mayor Carol Evans says the trailer park's residents are some of the most impoverished in the northern Arizona city.

"Get on Up" is in theaters now. The film chronicles the career of James Brown, who had a special connection to Harlem and New York. Billy Mitchell is the in-house historian at the historic Apollo Theater. He says the Apollo was a second home to Brown, as it was here where he became an international superstar who appealed to all. But Brown's NYC legacy stretches even further.
