A graphic design company out of San Francisco, 99designs, challenged people to come up with a new name and logo for the Washington Redskins. Over 1,887 designs were submitted from 347 designers all over the country on their online contest.

Name suggestions range from Warriors to Redtails from Renegades to Griffins. Some were in keeping with the American-Indian theme. Others tied into Washington sites and history. Redtails, based on the Tuskegee Airmen, isn’t really tied to D.C. history but is in 2nd place.

In creating the contest 99designs posts, “Our goal with this contest is to rebrand the franchise based on three different name suggestions with a logo that's a little more PC. And to have fun with it!”
