CrossFit enthusiasts sweat to send kids with illnesses to camp

Updated:
SURPRISE, Ariz. -

A group of CrossFit enthusiasts sweat it out for a good cause Saturday.

Members of CrossFit Arms in Surprise raised money for Camp Soaring Eagle, which sends seriously ill kids from Arizona to camp.

CrossFitters at CrossFit Arms cheered each other on while competing in a grueling competition.

It's all for a good cause: raising money for Camp Soaring Eagle.

"Camp Soaring Eagle is a local nonprofit. We take children with serious illnesses and provide camping experiences for them all in a medically safe environment," said Tiffany Bennett, with Camp Soaring Eagle.

All the proceeds go to the nonprofit organization.

"We're hoping for $5,000 from this location and the other one," said Bennett.

13-year-old Owen Gauntt was in the audience Saturday.

"I have osteosarcoma, which is a bone cancer.  I had it in my left leg, most of it actually," said Gauntt.

He was diagnosed at about 6-years-old.

He's now cancer free and will be one of many kids who will attend an upcoming camping trip.

"It just lets me know that they all care about our health and about their own health and that they're willing to pay to help us have a great life," said Gauntt.
