Family holds bedside vigil as teen fights for her life

MESA, Ariz. -

A valley teen who was the picture of health now lays in a hospital bed after suffering a brain aneurysm last week.

The 13-year-old girl is in a coma and her family remains by her bedside, praying she'll wake up.

This is a really heartbreaking story. 14-year-old Jenna Naylor complained about a headache a week ago. A short time later she collapsed and slipped into a coma.

The picture says it all -- a father's act of love as his daughter fights for her life.

"I always painted her nails when she was little and she used to paint my nails," said Kenny Naylor.

Jenna has been in a hospital bed for days. It started as a headache -- then she suffered an unexpected brain aneurysm. Two surgeries later she's in a coma, battling for her life.

"Saturday morning we had a healthy girl, living our lives like we do every day, and had no idea this was going to happen," said Tammy Naylor, Jenna's mother.

Photos of Jenna all around her show a happy, healthy, beautiful 14-year-old girl.

"Her laugh is contagious, she loves life."

Out of respect for their daughter, Jenna's parents don't want to show her on camera. Her head is half-shaven from surgeries, her face covered in tubes. Her father shaved half his hair so his daughter wouldn't feel so alone.

"You have to be hopeful. Otherwise... can't even think about it. Prayer, a lot of prayer."

Messages, pictures, and get well balloons are all around Jenna's hospital room where her life is now measured by numbers and lines.

"We're going to be ok and Jenna's going to be ok and we are going to get through this and we are going to get Jenna back."

And when Jenna wakes up, her father says it will be a very long time before he stops painting her nails. Right now he and Jenna's mom will sit by her bed and wait.

"We are on Jenna time, when Jenna's ready she'll wake up."

Heavy thunderstorms swept through the tri-state on Sunday causing flash floods and lightning strikes that injured 3 people. The three men were struck at Orchard Beach in the Bronx Sunday afternoon and were being treated at a local hospital. Meanwhile, various Labor Day weekend celebrations were interrupted, delayed and even canceled as the U.S. Open tennis tournament had to be postponed and the Electric Zoo musical festival on Randall's Island had to be prematurely shut down.
