WOODRIDGE, Ill. (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

A family dog alerted residents of a fire that caused $30,000 in damages to a home early Friday in west suburban Woodridge.

Firefighters responded about 4:10 a.m. to a home in the 1200 block of Richfield Court, according to a release from the Darien-Woodridge Fire Protection District.

The homeowner was outside attempting to extinguish the blaze with a water hose, the release said.

The homeowner told firefighters that all occupants were outside the home after the family dog entered the bedroom barking, alerting them to the fire, the release said. The firefighters extinguished the fire in the front room and exterior bay window area.

No one was injured, the release said.

The fire was extinguished within 90 minutes, the release said.

The home had working smoke detectors as well as a monitored fire alarm that did not activate until after firefighters arrived because the fire was on the outside of the home and not enough smoke had entered to trigger the alarm, the release said.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, which is focused on an area near a 12-volt landscape light transformer, the release said.

The house remains habitable with initial damage estimates at $30,000.
