NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

The 'crossroads of the world' was home to Beatles legend Sir Paul McCartney Thursday afternoon.

The entertainer, who visited a high school in Queens this week, performed to a large crowd.

"Wow! Really excited to be playing New York Times Square at 1pm this afternoon!" said McCartney via Twitter.

Photos shared on the social media site show the singer and his band standing inside a partially opened tractor trailer.

McCartney reportedly performed for about 15 minutes.

A day earlier, McCartney serenaded students at the Frank Sinatra School of the Arts and his wife, Nancy Shevell.

McCartney said, "Happy anniversary, Baby," to Shevell before going into his latest song, called "New." He said the song was inspired by his wife as the students turned to her and gushed.

McCartney and Shevell, his third wife, married in 2011.

His latest album, 'New,' is due out next week.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.

It appears the subway bedbug problem we've been reporting is getting worse. Commuters already have to contend with sweltering platforms, scurrying rats and packed train cars, and now there's another transit woe: fear of bedbugs.
