WASHINGTON -

Cell phone and bike thefts account for nearly 60 percent of all Metro crime according to a new report from the Metro Transit Police Department.

The October 2013 Security Report details crime statistics from January to August.

The report claims that riders are less likely to be a victim of crime while on the Metro system than outside of the system. Parking lot crime, according to the report, continues to decline.

The report also lists the ten stations that reported the most crime in Washington, D.C., Maryland and Virginia.

Seven of the top ten stations with the most crime are in D.C., two are in Maryland and one is in Virginia.

More than half the population of New York City rides public transportation to work. No other metropolis in this country even approaches that percentage or the MTA's total number of riders. For that reason, New York likely ranks as the most energy-efficient city in the nation. But what would it take to make the city even more energy-efficient or even self-sufficient?
