Suspects in Glendale home break-in botch getaway

Posted: Updated:
GLENDALE, Ariz. -

A break-in at a Glendale home Friday sent a high school into lockdown. That lockdown was lifted after police caught up with the suspects -- who didn't have the best getaway plan.

As soon as they hit the curb everyone went running, but they didn't get very far.

This all started when a man came home and found the four suspects inside his house near 59th Avenue and Thunderbird.

According to Glendale PD they all took off, but the homeowner called police and followed them.

"They chased them and then they ran into a fence and then 3 of them ran out, two girls and a guy ran out," says Steve Espinoza.

It looks like the 4th suspect, the driver, didn't even try to get away.

"The driver, he sits there. Lit up a cigarette and waited for the police."

The car crashed into Steve Espinoza's front yard. His son was home at the time.

"He says dad I heard this big old loud noise. I opened up the door and I looked out. I saw two girls and this guy running up the street."

As a precaution, police put a nearby school on lock down. The four suspects were all found pretty quickly. They never made it into the school.

"One of the guys was behind this house here. They had to bring a k-9 and it did a good job on his leg. He didn't want to come out."

All of the suspects are pretty young. Three of them are over 18 -- one of them is a juvenile.
