PHOENIX (AP) - A man accused in a fatal hit-and-run accident in Phoenix while under the influence of drugs has been sentenced to 12 years in prison.

Maricopa County prosecutors say 29-year-old James E. Bellinger also was sentenced Friday to five years of intensive probation.

They say Bellinger entered into a plea agreement and pleaded guilty to manslaughter and hit-and-run with death/injury.

Phoenix police say Bellinger struck a 37-year-old woman who was riding a motorcycle at an intersection on Jan. 11.

After the collision, witnesses say Bellinger drove to another area where he got out of his vehicle and walked away.

Police were called and officers arrested Bellinger. They say he showed signs of drug use.

The woman who was hit later died at a Phoenix hospital.
