A Texas man who went to college in Minnesota worked with his friends in the Twin Cities to plan the surprise of a lifetime by using his girlfriend's Pinterest page full of wedding plans to get hitched.
It was a "crazy idea" that turned into a 30-minute documentary that is has gone viral via YouTube. The topic? The wedding day of Ryan Leak and Amanda Roman.
"He made every guy look bad in the history of the world," Nate Ruch, senior pastor at Emmanuel Christian Center in Spring Lake Park, joked.
Ruch met Leak when he was attending North Central University in downtown Minneapolis. At the time, Ruch was an administrator there. When it came time to pop the question, Leak turned to him to play a part.
"It was just one of those things where everybody went, 'Is this really happening? It's happening -- I'm buying a plane ticket,'" Ruch recalled.
Phil Johnson, now the youth pastor at Emmanuel Christian Center, is another one of Leak's best friends.
"He's like, 'Hey man! I'm getting married on June 7th!'" Johnson told FOX 9 News.
When Johnson congratulated him and asked when he would propose, Leak gave the exact same date.
With more than 200 pins about her dream wedding, Leak planned out the event in advance without her knowledge. With a videographer in tow, he proposed and led her into a hotel ballroom where wedding guests were waiting. The two were married that night, and Leak said it was all possible because he once overheard her say that was her dream.
"Anyone that watches this and they have yet to get married are going to go watch that and go, 'Oh shoot, the bar just went way up," Johnson said. "Way up."
Both Johnson and Ruch were there, with Ruch officiating.
"There was just this sense of 'it's going to work out,'" Ruch explained. "We all received e-mails with orders of what was going to happen a number of months out so we could buy plane tickets and be prepared."
Prepared they were, and say yes she did.
