Boston makes good on Stanley Cup bet with Chicago video

CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

Making good on a Stanley Cup wager, Boston Mayor Thomas Menino prominently posted a Chicago Blackhawks-themed promotional video to his city's homepage on Wednesday.

The video, which was part of a gentleman's agreement between Menino and Mayor Rahm Emanuel, will remain on Boston's official website for 24 hours.

It's begins with Emanuel intoning, "Hello Boston, you have no idea how glad I am to speak to you."

"From one sports town to another, and one set of fans to another, I want to thank the Bruins and the entire city of Boston for a really, really great series," he continues.

The rest of the promotional video features victorious Chicago Blackhawks fans touting the city, as well as its hockey tradition.

In the lead-up the Blackhawks' second recent cup victory, Menino bet on his hometown Bruins. He wagered New England seafood, Boston theatre tickets and a commemorative tree to be planted in a schoolyard of Emanuel's choosing.

But when it came to offering up Boston's website, Menino couldn't resist a good-natured jab at the expense of his famously foul-mouthed counterpart, requesting in a letter that the video have "no profanities, please."

Some of the items Emanuel offered up in the "very unlikely event" the Bruins won included Steppenwolf Theatre tickets; an assortment of Chicago food, beers and sauces; and an "unlucky" #13 Blackhawks' jersey with Menino's name on the back.
