Report: Bulger calls alleged victim's family 'low lifes' in letter

Posted: Updated:

(MyFoxBoston.com) -- Mob boss James "Whitey" Bulger had some harsh words for the family of a woman he is accused of killing.

In a letter RadarOnline claims was written by the 84-year-old, Bulger reportedly discusses his associate's relationship with Debra Davis. Bulger reiterates his claim that he never killed a woman, blaming Davis' death on her longtime boyfriend, Stephen "The Rifleman" Flemmi.

Bulger claims Davis became a "material girl" after she began dating Flemmi as a teenager. He says Flemmi would send Davis and her mother on extravagant vacations and that she was on the drug "Speed."

The mob boss also writes that Flemmi discovered Davis was cheating on him with a member of the Mafia by bugging her phone.

According to the website, Bulger lambasted the Davis family, calling them "low lifes." He reportedly told the unidentified pen pal they'd pick a million dollar settlement from the federal government over seeing their loved one alive again.

FOX 25's Bob Ward was alerted to the letter by Davis' brother Steve, who regularly spoke to the media outside Moakley Federal Courthouse during Bulger's racketeering trial.

Bulger was charged for his alleged connection to Davis' 1981 murder, but the jury came back with a "no finding" verdict.

The mob boss is awaiting sentencing on charges that include racketeering and conspiracy.

Robert De Niro is a family man, a filmmaker, an entrepreneur and one of my favorite actors of all time. He's also a co-founder of the Tribeca Film Festival, which has more to see than ever before. De Niro wears just as many hats on screen as he does in real life. The father of six starred in six films last year, owns four restaurants and a hotel, and still finds time each spring for the Tribeca Film Festival, Lower Manhattan's annual cinematic showcase.
