17 rifles stolen from Bass Pro Shops in Macon

MACON, Ga. (AP) - Authorities are investigating the thefts of 17 rifles from a Bass Pro Shop in Macon.

Bibb County sheriff's officials say four men broke through a glass door at the outdoor store around 11:40 p.m. Sunday, then headed to the gun area. The Telegraph of Macon reports that the suspects used a crowbar to pry open the metal bars that secured the weapons.

Cara Cotton, director of strategic management for the Bibb County Sheriff's Office, said that 17 AR-15 semi-automatic rifles were stolen.

Sheriff David Davis tells WMAZ-TV that the men were only in the store for about 2 to 5 minutes and had fled before deputies arrived.
