Pets And Owners Run Together In Race

Posted: Updated:

And they're off! Dogs and owners ran through the streets of Peru. More than 1,000 pets and people took part in a two-and-a-half mile race in honor of Pet Day.

Some pups ran enthusiastically, while others needed a little more encouragement.

The entire course was lined with spectators, cheering for the dogs and people. Both dogs and owners crossed the finish line with a smile on their faces.

Race prizes for the winning canines were: first place winners got one year of free dog food; second place winners got six months of free dog food; and third place winners got three months of free dog food.

Despite the prizes, most dog owners would agree that it's more about the experience than anything.

This event, now in its second year, is organized by pet food companies together with the municipality of San Borja, a district in the Southeast of the Peru capital.
