2 baby javelina orphaned when herd is killed

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -

Two baby javelina have been rescued by Southwest Wildlife Conservation Center after their entire herd was hit by cars.

The dead javelina were found near 132nd Street and Shea. Scottsdale Police say the wild animals were hit in the street and pulled off to the side of the road.

The bodies have been removed and authorities don't believe any foul play was involved.

They will be cared for at SWCC until they can be introduced to other javelina in hopes of forming a herd.

"These guys probably just ran off and that's why they were saved and luckily some good Samaritans called us," says Kim Carr of Southwest Wildlife Conservation Center.

As orphans they'll need a special diet.

"A little bit of formula, pumpkins, bananas all the things that they like."

Carr adds, "He looks very mild mannered right now -- they're born with a full set of teeth and they will use those teeth. They're wild animals they don't want to be kept as pets and no they're not cute and cuddly and neither is any baby wild animal."
