Flesh Eating Fish In NJ Ponds

Posted: Updated:
Passaic, New Jersey (My9NJ) -

A warning to New Jersey residents: Don’t go skinny-dipping in NJ ponds or lakes! Tom Boylan, a retired bus driver, caught a 10-inch Pacu while fishing in a New Jersey pond.

A Pacu is a Brazilian fish that is a relative of the piranha, and it’s most notoriously known for attacking men’s testicles. Boylan explained how he knew there was something strange about this catch, “I looked at its mouth and saw this nice solid row of teeth, like human teeth” He said.

Boylan proudly boasts that he was out on this particular pond in Passaic, New Jersey fishing 253 times last year alone, and one thing that he’s noticed is that residents dump, what he believes to be exotic fish, into the pond.

“I’ve been fishing here 11 years since I’ve been retired, and it’s not unusual to see someone come down here with a pot and dump things in the water, which I assume they’re cleaning out their fish tanks.” He said.

Neighbors misbehaving like that might actually lead to stricter regulations of exotic fish. Patrick Donston, owner of Absolutely Fish, says, “What could happen with this whether it be the United States Fish and Wildlife or New Jersey Fish and Wildlife, they may re-look at whether we are allowed to have Pacus or Piranhas in the state of New Jersey to sell to customers.”

Unfortunately, this isn’t the first time New Jersey has seen some pretty wild things in our water.

So I have no intention of going anywhere near them, I think it's a horrible idea,” one customer said.
