He was the funniest guy in the room, something that made it all the harder for friends and fans to accept that beneath that reservoir of frenetic energy and seemingly endless good humor resided demons so dark they could push Robin Williams to suicide.

The gaming world got some exciting news this week from a company that has traditionally kept to the PC world and it might soon give the Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and Wii some heated competition.

Gaming company Valve, best known for the Half-Life, Portal and Team Fortress series made a handful of announcements this week that could put them in the living room and in direct competition of names like Xbox, PlayStation and Nintendo.

Monday, they said they would be rolling out a new Linux-based operating system called SteamOS on Monday. The system would build upon the already popular Steam portal which allows users to download and connect game through an online network. CNET reports the OS would allow in-home streaming of a user's entire Steam library of Mac and Windows games. The free OS would also allow users to set better parental controls.

Mid-week, Valve announced they would begin Beta testing on their rumored Steam Machines. PC Magazine reports about 300 users will get the opportunity to test the machines created by third-party manufacturers for Valve. The consoles would run on the new SteamOS. Valve did not release any specs or further details about the systems, but hinted that some of the consoles could be available late in 2014 to the general public.

Friday may have been the day that brought about a revolution in game control pads. The Steam Controller was announced. Images of the sleek black control and how it operates was released by Valve. The company told WIRED.com that the controller would allow for high fidelity input than the traditional handheld controller.

The impact on the gaming world is yet to be fully realized, but the gamers have been buzzing about the announcements all week.
