Parents question police action after Gwinnett nanny's arrest

Posted: Updated:
GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. -

The parents of a Gwinnett County 8-month-old say they're shocked by what happened to their child.  They say police turned their baby over to their nanny's father after she was arrested on shoplifting allegations.

Erika Vardanian and Ryan Carter are thankful that their son, Jaxon, is okay.  They say he was with his nanny on Thursday when she was arrested for shoplifting at the Mall of Georgia.  Vardanian says she got a call from a man she didn't know who told her he had her baby.

The child's parents say want to know why police didn't take steps to contact them directly after their nanny, who has been identified as 18-year-old Julie Ann Wilson was arrested.

Gwinnett County Police spokesman Cpl. Edwin Ritter told FOX 5 he couldn't talk about the details of the case because the police report is not yet available.  He said in general, they make every attempt possible in situations like these to make sure that the child is passed on to the care of a parent or a legal guardian.

The nanny's father says he told police at the mall he did not know the baby's name, and needed information to reach the parents.  He told FOX 5 police did confirm with him that he had reach the parents.

The saying art is autobiographical takes on a whole new meaning when your canvas is a fully nude human body, as it is for artist Andy Golub. Andy along with 30 other artists and 45 Technicolor models paraded around several Manhattan hotspots over the weekend for NYC Body Painting day. Believe or not, this is completely legal in New York City.
