Body found in burned home hours after DFD left, put fire out

DETROIT, Mich. (WJBK) -

The Detroit Fire Department responded Monday night to a house fire on Minock St. The fire was put out and crews then cleared the scene.

The next morning, a woman returned to the house where she says her husband had been staying. She was stopping by to say good morning to 44-year-old Talib al MarAjdah, not realizing the house had burned down just hours ago. Once she got to the property and discovered the fire, she says she found her husband's body in a closet, both of which were in clear view from the front porch.

Police are investigating to see if the body was placed there after the fire, but early investigations show no signs of foul play. An autopsy is scheduled for Wednesday.

Meanwhile, the victim's family is upset because they do not understand how this could have happened, and feel his death could have been prevented. "The fire department had a chance to save him. I think that he had a chance," Ali al MarAjdah tells Fox 2's Taryn Asher. Ali is one of Talib's seven sons.

The family believes the fire started by a candle Talib al MarAjdah was using after the electricity had been shut off the day before. The family moved out of this rental house five days prior to the fire, and al MarAjadh was staying there to paint and clean it up.
