Booker Steps Closer To Senate Seat?

Posted: Updated:
Trenton, New Jersey (My9NJ) -

Cory Booker has received some criticism lately for spending a lot of time away from Newark as he pursues New Jersey's open Senate seat. It is estimated that the mayor is away 20% of the time and spends more time acting like a "celebrity" than a mayor.

Democratic Strategist Steve Ayscue has been working on Cory Booker's campaign and came to the mayor's defense. He said, "Cory is a national figure in the Democratic party, that benefits New Jersey. So for all the talk that he's a celebrity that hangs out with A-listers I think that's kind of a shill of an issue."

In terms of the benefits to New Jersey, Ayscue said, "Look we have legislation that he's going to push in the US Senate to get people on board to support bills and bring in celebrities under people to help push the agenda, that's a great thing for the state I don't see how that's a negative."

It won't surprise anyone if Booker comes out victorious in the special Senate election again Steve Lonegan. Currently the mayor is up 30 points, so why is he pulling out all the stops on the campaign trail rather than fixing what he can in Newark? Ayscue said, "We don't take anything for granted, no ones lying down in this campaign. Certainly, Cory Booker takes every competitor seriously."
