NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

Six men are under arrest after Long Island police say they were involved in a riot in a courthouse that left nearly a dozen court officers injured.

Nassau County police say it happened on Friday at about 11 a.m. in Hempstead.

Police say a group of men were in First District Court on Main Street in Hempstead to watch an arraignment.

An argument broke out in the courtroom. The judge ordered everyone out and court officers attempted to disperse everyone from the courtroom.

Once they got into the hallway a physical altercation began to take place. Police say the men started throwing punches and refused to take orders from court officers to clear the area.

Eleven court officers ended up being hurt in the melee. One officer needed to go to the hospital for treatment. The rest were treated on the scene.

Police arrested Abdul Rahim Robinson, 22, Aaron Munlin, 20, Jerry Merchant, 50, Louis Merchant, 51, Shapeace M. Goodwine, 22, and Terry Green.

All six are charged with Riot 1st degree, Riot 2nd degree and Criminal Contempt 2nd degree.

Louis Merchant already had an open Nassau County bench warrant.

They were all to arraigned on Saturday in Hempstead.
