FOX 2 and Gleaners team up to Mow Down Hunger

Help us reach 1 million meals for children in need!

Gleaners programs reached nearly 300,000 children last year.  Every county in southeast Michigan is home to thousands of children who struggle with hunger.  Help us Mow Down Hunger!

On Monday, Sept. 23, FOX 2 and Gleaners are teaming up for the Mow Down Hunger Match.  Every dollar you give will be matched by the Weingartz family.  You can make double the difference on Monday!

Mow Down Hunger campaign proceeds will support Gleaners' efforts to reach children at risk of hunger, through programs such as BackPack and school-based mobile pantries. The BackPack program distributes backpacks filled with nutritious food for the weekend. Each mobile pantry distribution provides approximately 200 households with 50 pounds of nonperishable food, produce and protein.

Donations can be made:

· Call: 855-315-FOOD (3663)

· Text: "EAT" to 85944 (a $10 donation will automatically be added to donor's phone bill)

· Online: Visit www.MowDownHunger.com

· Mail: Make check payable to Gleaners Community Food Bank (memo: Mow Down Hunger), P.O. Box 33221, Drawer 43, Detroit, MI 48232-3321

For more than 36 years, Gleaners Community Food Bank has been "feeding hungry people and nourishing our communities." Last year, Gleaners distributed more than 46 million pounds of emergency food to over 550 partner schools, soup kitchens, shelters and pantries in Wayne, Oakland, Macomb, Livingston and Monroe counties. Of every dollar donated, Gleaners uses 93 cents for food and food programs. One dollar provides three meals for a hungry neighbor.
