(WJBK) -

Depression is a disease that can be easily disguised and often goes undiagnosed and untreated. The Centers for Disease Control estimates one in ten Americans suffer with the disease.

Beth Dzierwa is one of those people.

The 26-year-old Ferndale resident talks about her lifelong battle with depression. After struggling for years, she is now a successful chef. She tells Fox 2's Deena Centofanti that treating depression can be a difficult process that starts with open communication.

Two walks this weekend around metro-Detroit can help start that difficult conversation.
