Missing Henry County pastor found safe

ATLANTA -

A retired pastor who was missing for more than a day was found Friday.

A Mattie's Call was issued after Henry Blackaby, 78, went missing from his home in Rex. Ga., on Thursday afternoon.

Friends and family were concerned because the former Baptist minister has Type 2 diabetes and hadn't taken his insulin in more than a day.

Blackaby is known worldwide after establishing Blackaby International Ministries in British Columbia, Canada. He is the author of the bestselling book "Experiencing God."  Several of his adult children are pastors in South Carolina, Germany, British Columbia and Georgia.

Parishioners gathered all day Friday at First Baptist Church in Jonesboro, where Blackaby's son is the senior pastor.

Blackaby was pulled over by authorities in Tifton, Ga., FOX 5's George Franco reports.

Wes Agnew, the administrative pastor at First Baptist Church, said the 78-year-old was first spotted at a tobacco store in Perry, Ga., about 90 miles south of metro Atlanta. Later, a patrol car pulled him over in Tifton another 50 miles away.

"He had gone from Perry to Fitzgerald and then doubled kind of turned around and went back the opposite direction," said Agnew.

Family members reunited with Blackaby late Friday, according to authorities.

Parishioners said they were thankful that their prayers had been answered.

While a thousand people streamed into a courtyard at St. Lucy Parish in the Bronx to watch a reenactment of the crucifixion of Christ, next door a steady trickle of believers quietly collected water from that church's grotto, taking the liquid home to heal, cure, and bless.
