Douglasville City Councilman's online comments draw fire

Posted: Updated:
DOUGLAS COUNTY, Ga. -

A local city councilman is under fire for comments he made online.

Douglasville City Councilmember Dennis McLain has apologized for several posts that he made on Facebook that some residents found insensitive.

In reference to Tiger Woods, McLain posted, "So TIGER doesn't like fried chicken? Haha."

In response to an article about a Boy Scout event, McLain posted "Gotta make room for the perverts. Can straight Scoutmasters attend?"

Other posts included comments on President Barack Obama and current fashion trends.

Most people FOX 5 talked to said the posts were inappropriate.

"There is a time and play for conversations for things like this," said Doris Kratt. "They are ignorant, the way that he did this."

In response to criticism, McLain told the Douglas County Sentinel, "I'm truly sorry. I know I've hurt a lot of people that I wouldn't have hurt for anything in the world and I hope that they will still be my friend. Just know that you can tear down a lot in five minutes that you took 70 years to build."

McLain is running for re-election. FOX 5 was unable to reach him for comment.
