How to make Michigan cherry chili

Get this recipe courtesy of chef Scott Brown from Lily's Seafood in Royal Oak.

Brown will take part in the fourth annual South Oakland Chili Cook-Off from 6-10 p.m.. Saturday, Sept. 21 at the Royal Oak Farmers Market. Learn more at www.southoaklandchilicookoff.com.

Ingredients:
1 pound ground beef
1/2 tbl black pepper
1/2 cup chili powder
2 tbl cumin
1 pound chopped white onion
3 cups cooked kidney beans
1 cup dried MI cherry
1 cup grenadine
1 quart chicken or beef stock
3 cups or 2 cans of diced tomatoes
1/2 cup tomato paste

Method:
Brown beef and drain excess fat.
Saute onions till soft then add beef,spices and tomato paste saute for additional 5 min then add remaining ingredients.
Cook on low and stir frequently at least 45 min.
Serve with chopped green onions and Pinconning  Cheese
