Heavy handbags can cause health problems

Posted: Updated:
NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

Many of us live out of our handbags. We've got our wallets, phones, keys, and make-up in there and much more. But those items can weigh you down.

Nothing like a scale to reveal the truth: we stopped a woman on the street who was carrying a large handbag that is quite literally weighing her down.

Doctors say those bulging pocketbooks we lug around day after day are ruining our neck and spine. In fact, one study suggests your purse should not weigh more than 15 percent of your body weight.

So we put some New Yorkers bags to the test and weighed some women's handbags: 8, 15 pounds, and more.

Basil plants grow on a New Jersey farm, but the facility could be turned into a five-acre medical marijuana greenhouse with only 48 hours' notice. The hoses from the state-of-the-art Dutch hydroponic system are watering flowers now, but with a few minor adjustments could just as easily grow marijuana plants for medicinal cannabis. The only reason it's not happening now is because the company is publicly traded and subject to federal law.
