Jury selection delayed in copper heiress trial

NEW YORK (AP) -- Jury selection has been delayed in a New York City trial stemming from a feud over the fortune of an eccentric copper heiress whose father founded Las Vegas.

Jury selection was supposed to begin Tuesday in the civil trial surrounding Huguette Clark's will. But court clerks said it was postponed until Thursday at the request of lawyers involved in the case. They did not elaborate.

Clark owned lavish properties from New York's Fifth Avenue to California but spent her last 20 years in a Manhattan hospital.

The childless Clark died in 2011, at age 104. Her estate is estimated at roughly $300 million.

Distant relatives say hospital executives, medical professionals and her lawyer and accountant manipulated Clark into bequeathing them millions of dollars.

The beneficiaries say Clark was a generous woman who wanted to help those who helped her.

    The Federal Aviation Administration has banned U.S. carriers from flying to Israel's main airport for 24 hours. The FAA made the announcement at about 12:40 p.m. on Tuesday. This comes after two U.S. airlines cancelled all flights to Israel until further notice following a rocket landing near the Ben-Gurion Airport earlier in the day.
