DETROIT, Mich. (WJBK) -

Tyron Godwin was leaving work for the night.

He was locking up the security gate at Sanders Dry Cleaning, just as he had done every day for the past 20 years.

Meanwhile down E. Warren St., two teens were leaving a football game when authorities believe they began to street race.

Just as Godwin was outside closing up shop, one of those cars lost control, jumped the curb and ran into Godwin, the exterior of the shop and a nearby utility pole.

Godwin was taken the hospital where he died later that evening.

Godwin's daughter, Tanisha Cannon, describes her father as a "hard worker."

Police say they have one 19-year-old in custody. He may have been injured in the crash but authorities aren't releasing details of his condition at this time. The second suspect drove away from the scene and is still being sought out.

Godwin's family is planning a vigil for 6 p.m. Tuesday at the scene of the accident. They have also set up a fund at the Bank of America to collect donations to cover funeral costs.
