PHOENIX (AP) -- Two Phoenix police officers are recovering Sunday after being caught in an exchange of gunfire with a man who authorities believe was upset over being evicted from his home.

Police spokesman Sgt. Steve Martos says officers responded to a condominium complex Saturday afternoon and found 30-year-old Lance Danielson and three others trying to enter his condo.

The shooting erupted after three hours of negotiations began to deteriorate.

Martos says Danielson was killed, one officer was struck by gunfire and another officer was hit in his ballistic vest.

The female officer who was struck remained in the hospital Sunday. Her injuries were not life-threatening.
