Man held on $400,000 bond for carjacking Chicago Police sergeant

CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

A Greater Grand Crossing man accused of carjacking an off-duty Chicago Police sergeant two weeks ago was ordered held on $400,000 bond by a Cook County judge on Saturday.

Nineteen-year-old Christopher Jones was already in police custody for an unrelated burglary when he was implicated in the carjacking investigation, police said.

Jones was charged with vehicular hijacking, theft, residential burglary, vehicular invasion and aggravated battery, among others, police said.

During the late evening hours on Sept. 6, Jones allegedly forced the off-duty sergeant from his 2006 Infiniti QX56 in the South Shore neighborhood, police said.

At the time, police said the sergeant suffered "minor injuries" during the confrontation and was treated at the scene, in the 6900 block of East End Avenue.

Jones, of the of the 1300 block of East 69th Street, was initially arrested Thursday for an unrelated burglary that occurred Aug. 25 in the 6100 block of South Kimbark Avenue, police said.
