ATLANTA -

Police say a man has died after being struck by a school bus Friday afternoon in northwest Atlanta.

A spokesperson for the Atlanta Police Department tells FOX 5 News that the bus was traveling in the 800 block of James Jackson Parkway when it struck and killed the pedestrian just north of Donald Lee Hollowell Parkway.

Witnesses told FOX 5 that the man, who was said to be in his 50s, had just left the Buy-Low grocery store and surprised the bus driver by staggering into the street.

School officials say the driver and one student passenger were on the bus at the time of the incident. The student was escorted onto another bus and taken home from there.

Authorities said that the bus driver will likely not face charges.

The victim's name has not yet been released.
