3 police officers hurt after boardwalk fire

Posted: Updated:
NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) - Three police officers were injured when they fell out of a moving pickup truck at the scene of the Jersey Shore boardwalk fire.

"For some reason they fell out of that truck," said Christie during a press briefing on Friday.

The officers had spent all night doing security patrols while firefighters worked on the massive blaze in Seaside Park and Seaside Heights, reported the AP.

Christie added he did not know the condition of the Seaside Park police, but said two of them fell on their heads.

The fire which broke out Thursday afternoon and burned for eight hours, destroyed four blocks and about 50 businesses in Seaside Park and neighboring Seaside Heights.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

The area was hit hard by Superstorm Sandy nearly one year ago.
