CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

Police are warning Austin residents about three recent vehicle burglaries and thefts in the West Side neighborhood.

In all three incidents, victims legally parked their cars and had their keys with them, but returned later to find vehicles either burglarized or stolen, according to an alert issued by Area North detectives.

The first theft happened in the 700 block of North Central Avenue about 6 a.m. Aug. 31, the alert said.

Two more thefts happened in the 4900 block of West Ferdinand Street about 8 p.m. last Wednesday and in the 4900 block of West Arthington Street about 10 a.m. last Thursday, the alert said.

Authorities are telling neighbors to park in well-lit areas, lock their car doors and windows and avoid leaving valuable items inside vehicles, the alert said.

Anyone with information on the incidents should call Area North detectives at (312) 744-8263.
