8 Injured, 2 Seriously, In 7-Vehicle Wreck Involving Bus

Posted: Updated:
GLENDORA, N.J. -

Officials at the scene now say a seven-vehicle crash involving a bus in Camden County has injured eight people, two of whom are in serious condition at a local hospital.

The scene is on North Black Horse Pike and Chews Landing Road in Glendora.

"First I heard the screeching brakes of cars and trucks," recalls Tricia Palczski, a salon owner.

Tricia Palczski looked out her window of her hair salon at 9:40 this morning to see a seven car accident, including a school bus carrying senior citizens to a Camden County adult daycare program.

"Scary. Very scary. The worst I've seen. The most amount of cars. To look down and see that woman in that car was horrible," she recalls.

Tricia has seen lots of accident from the window of her salon, but the woman she's describing was in the black Kia.

"It was a pretty long and drawn out extrication, difficult because they had to dismantle the car around the patient," says Deputy Chief David Harkins of Gloucester Township Police.

At 10:15 a.m., SkyFOX overhead showed emergency responders working to take one person off the bus. The elderly woman from the bus was also critical, and she and the woman in the black Kia were both taken to Cooper University Hospital. Eight people total were treated at area hospitals. Three walked away from the crash.

It's terrible to say, but maybe this attention will be enough that maybe the state will come do a traffic study," says Palczski.

"I wouldn't go out here early in the morning or at night during rush hour because there's no light and traffic doesn't stop," says Kim Sparks of Glendora. "A lot of confusion, most people know not to turn on the pike, but some people don't."

"There's a lot of screeching wheels out here all the time," says Palczski. "People try to cut across first Avenue and they're cutting across five lanes of traffic when they do that.

Tricia Palczski has owned her hair salon since 1995. Years back, she and her husband pushed for a traffic light.

"10-15 years ago we had a traffic study ourselves...took it to town council," she says. "The state of NJ said no. Most of the time we tell our customers to come in on the other side streets."

Gloucester Township Police haven't determined the cause of the crash. There are no cameras at the intersection, so they're relying on victims and witnesses.

"During rush hour it's a pain. I go 2 blocks out of my way just to go down to go to work," says Kim Sparks. "All you have to do is not pay attention for one second at this intersection. I've been hit here a few times myself."

Six people were indicted Wednesday in an international ring that managed to take over more than 1,000 StubHub users' accounts and fraudulently buy tickets to such prime events as Jay-Z and Elton John concerts, a New York Yankees-Boston Red Sox game and Broadway shows like "The Book of Mormon," the Manhattan district attorney said. Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus R. Vance Jr. said the thieves would then resell the tickets and split up the proceeds.
